Bringing Content Production and Japanese Cultural Research to You
Hi all, Mikeru here, and welcome to this new blog. Yeah, after some consideration, I’ve decided to eventually open a blog after all. This is despite what I initially said to those who have been following me longer on deviantArt (dA) that I will not start a blog if I don’t have any themed topics to write about. I thank you all for the initial support from dA, but after some trial and error, I feel that it feels mostly like a closed environment; it's interface mostly favors channeling views to artwork are more recent or those that have been very thoroughly Search-Engine-Optimized (SEO). That, and a couple of other factors I have in mind, would make a long story. The Too Long; Don't Read (TL;DR): it is not optimally conducive to use it as a portfolio site. (Maybe an idea for a column, yeah?) How to use, and what to expect from, this site For my contribution, I will generally blog about the projects that I am doing, some columns, Japanese-entertainment related articles and some personals. I may blog about other projects that I am involved in, though I currently don’t have any to share on conveniently on hand for now. Generally, most of the content here and on FB and dA are written by me if it is in first person. Marie’s space is mostly a gallery of her shortlisted works; though I still encourage you to view her full set on her art Instagram and/or twitter if you are already an SNS-active person. Apart from these, I don’t want to reveal too much about our student/work life online as the focus is on the stuff we create, that our network is portrayed as a service to others, and for professionalism reasons. This is covered in the explanatory Services page about the skills we offer pro-bono and paid, so if you know someone who would like to use them, drop us a message. Making the most out of ourselves We have been online for a while on other CMSes (Content Management Systems) and I think we should clarify the direction of what we really want to make out of our content production skills (copywriting, exhibiting, illustrating etc.), especially to those who have been following us for some time. On my side, I eventually want to improve to the level of being able to be a content producer, a full/part-time or freelance job. I am currently already doing it in small amounts now for a certain local studio, and am looking to increase the number of gigs I do. As for Marie, she is currently in her second, moving on third, of her three years in Senior High and is thus nearing her primary objective in this phase of education – to sit for University Entrance Examminations aka the Center Test, so her drawing is at best a hobby, but we take it as serious practice for on her artistry skill organically first and see potential in making it into a bigger commitment. Without intending to brag, we have received some comments from others who are confident that she can pursue art professionally and go freelance; in fact, someone has offered us a gig before, though we had to turn it down due to her current commitment as a student. Like many students her age, she is still deciding her career and we need to consider if this is something viable she can do long term. Generally, students in Singapore and Japan who study in the Senior High School tracks study by rote, heuristics and academic content, and don’t have much hands-on real-world-experience compared to those studying in vocational courses, so more forethought has to be initiated on her side. That should be it for now, till next time :) - Mikeru EDIT: The original post was improved upon for clarity thanks to suggestions from our friend Umberslade. Keep your suggestions coming in. :)
